Environment Project in May

May - the month of the environment
Not only in Mama Elba (the Centre for children with disabilities) but also for some of us volunteers was the month May “el mes del medio Ambiente”.
Three of us volunteers gave weekly workshops about environmental issues in a public elementary school here in Samaná.
The workshops content was very basic and about general information and tasks, so that it was applicable for different groups of ages. We had students from 8 to 14 year old ones (different grades eachtime) in our lesson units. I was impressed by the knowledge and ideas of some very young students. We did not teach in a classical way; we wanted the students to enjoy and have fun while learning andthinking about new aspects and it worked out well!
In the Gallery above you can see pictures of last weeks final activity - a Beach Clean-Up day here in Samaná. All of the Aldeas de Paz volunteers, our coordinator and director took part in the activity.
This times Clean-Up day was different than the ones before because we got extra help from the children of Mama Elba Centre and some kids from the public middle school.
In spite of the hot weather and the afternoon heat, everyone was quite motivated and busy collecting tons of trash. In groups of three or four, one or two holding the bags, the rest picking up the trash wearing those huge working gloves, we proceeded bit by bit, along the beach.
