Thanks to some friends who work for the environment ministry of Samaná, we had the opportunity to check out on foot (instead by boat) a - for us still unknown - beach in Las Galeras. The beach is called Playa Frontón and normally reached by boat but we were a huge group so that it was worth it to rent a safari bus that took us as far as possible till we had to start walking. The so called "Semana Santa" (Easter week 14th - 20th April this year) was the perfect opportunity for us to take part in - a little different voyage - a mountain trip: ascending the mountain named "Pico Duarte". The Pico Duarte with an altitude of 3098m is the highest mountain of the Caribbean and is situated in the national park "Armando Bermúdez" (nearby Jarabaccoa) where the 52km hiking trail starts. A few days after we had spent Christmas in Punta Cana, I flew to the US to Boston to visit my boyfriend and his family in Rhode Island.
I couldn't believe that I was actually going to experience a real winter during my year abroad!
I was so excited despite I was really cold the first few days.
We tried to do as much as we could during the week and it was beautiful!
Especially because we got to celebrate New Year's together.

Der Ausflug nach Los Haitises, einem Nationalpark in der Dominikanischen Republik, war fantastisch!
Es war einfach eine unvergesslich Tour für uns und ich muss sagen, dass es ein paradisischer Ort ist.
Der Nationalpark "Los Haitises" war schon zuvor einer der Orte, die auf jeden Fall von Anfang an auf meine Liste von sehenswerten Gegenden, die ich mit Sicherheit besuchen möchte dieses Jahr, musste.

Um 9.00 Uhr ging es heute morgen los von der Guagua-Station in Samaná, die sich gegenüber vom Supermarkt befindet. Ich war so müde heute morgen, weil wir gestern Abend ein BBQ mit allen gemacht haben, welches super schön und gemütlich war. Der "Wanderweg" durch den Wald zum Wasserfall hat mir richtig gut gefallen, weil es so ruhig und schön war und wir einfach mal die Natur alleine genießen konnten. Gerade geht ein wunderschönes und sehr ereignisreiches Wochenende zu Ende, welches wir alle 12 zusammen verbracht haben, sogar in beiden Städten.
Am Freitag in der Früh bekamen wir nämlich Besuch aus Las Terrenas von unseren 6 dortigen Freiwilligen plus Koordinatoren, um gemeinsam an den Workshops unserer Organisation teilzunehmen und zu gestalten.
