May - the month of the environment Not only in Mama Elba (the Centre for children with disabilities) but also for some of us volunteers was the month May “el mes del medio Ambiente”. Three of us volunteers gave weekly workshops about environmental issues in a public elementary school here in Samaná.

As we missed one of the rare medical missions in march because of our intermediate seminar, we were really excited and happy about last week's news: The so called "Mercy International Medical Mission" would take place the coming week in the public hospital, here in Samaná.

Yesterday evening we all came back from the town Cabarete where we had spent our seminar. It is halftime for us and 6 months are already over... isn't it crazy how fast the time passes by?

Last weekend, on the 26th & 27th of January, the so called "Quelonios" - Festival took place at Playa El Valle.
It was organised by the Medio Ambiente of Samaná.
The yearly event provided its guests with different activities: It was filled with art (at the market), workshops, lectures, conferences, pro-environment outdoor activities, forums and music.

Past Wednesday, 10 volunteers of Aldeas the Paz cleaned up the Beach of El Valle in coorporation with the environment ministry of Samaná.
On the on hand the clean-up day took place in order to provide a clean location for the upcoming "Quelonios"- (Art, Music & Environment) Festival and on the other hand to free the beach from the immense amount of trash and to recycle it...

The past month we - our Fundación
Aldeas the Paz - carried out two very important events: the 3rd
Crowdfunding Event and the yearly Christmas Party of Mamá Elba.
The Crowdfunding event took place for the third time and has become an yearly event of the organisation's essential project Mamá Elba.
Two weeks later in December the "Fiesta de Navidad" (Christmas party) was organised by the Fundación for the children and parents of Mamá Elba, the Aldeas de Paz volunteers and its entire team.

Die vergangenen zwei Wochen, hatten wir ein besonderes Projekt, neben unserer Arbeit in den Einsatzstellen, laufen:

Vergangene Woche (5-9.11) fand eine sogenannte Tierarzt Mission in unserer Stadt Samaná statt. Vier von uns Freiwilligen, darunter auch ich, durften sich sehr glücklich schätzen, an der Vet Mission teilhaben zu dürfen. Die Tierärzte des "Projekt(s) Samaná" kamen alle zusammen aus den USA, aus Massachutes, um eine Woche lang kostenfrei Tiere zu operieren, zu kastrieren und zu sterilisieren. Unser Trip in die Hauptstadt - Santo Domingo, ging am Freitag schon super früh los, denn wir nahmen ein Guagua Autobús bereits um 6.30 Uhr. Wir 6 Rotkreuzler aus Samaná waren mit unserem Koordinator unterwegs, um in la Capital die anderen 6 aus Las Terrenas zu treffen und dort gemeinsam unsere Einladung der Deutschen Botschaft wahrzunehmen...

Diese Woche durften sich Ich und zwei andere Mädels unserer Freiwilligen echt glücklich schätzen, dass wir bei der sogenannten "Midwest Medical Mission" in El Limón teilhaben durften. Bei diesen Missionen handelt es sich um einwöchige Projekte, bei denen - für die vorortigen Bewohner - kostenlose Operationen, Untersuchungen und kleinere Eingriffe, welche von amerikanischen Ärzten aus Michigan, durchgeführt werden.
